Seriously.
I love the sound of banjos.
That twangy, chaotic order reverberates the sound of pure melancholy, moonshine and rebellion.
As an artist, writer and musician, I am inspired by all different types of music, and bluegrass is just one of them.
I don’t understand why people who listen to mostly rock or mostly hip hop and R&B feel this automatic rejection of music like bluegrass. Like they’re not allowed to listen to it and actually like it. It’s forbidden.
Then there’s the punk rock friend who says, “yeah, I like banjos if they’re in a punk song. Any instrument can be punk. But I hate that real bluegrass hillbilly shit that they listen to in the bumfuck mountains.”
I want the bumfuck nowhere mountain music. That’s the real, raw, truly inspiring bluegrass.
I saw a video on YouTube the other day. It appears to be an Amish family who are also a bluegrass band. They’re called The Brandenberger Family, and the song was ‘I Heard The Bluebirds Sing’. In fact, here it is.
Yeah, this right here is awesome, raw bluegrass. Such a great song. These guys are great!
